We regretfully announce the passing of Doris Margarita Miranda, 76, of Ponce, Puerto Rico, on Saturday, November 13, 2021.

Doris was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in March 1945 as the oldest of three children to Reynaldo & Margarita Rodriguez. A U.S. Army brat, she and her two brothers experienced childhood across the country, most memorably in Fort Greeley, Alaska, where standing water can freeze in 15 seconds (she timed it) and where she got her first job at the PX. Additionally, they lived in Petersburg, Virginia and Fort Allen, Cayey, Puerto Rico.

Doris and the family returned to Ponce for her high school years, and in 1966 she graduated from Catholic University Pontificia in Ponce with a Bachelors in English. Various jobs commenced (high school English teacher, dance instructor) before she found Pan Am, where she worked off and on for years.

In 1970 she met Richard Miranda at a party she was hosting. Richard fell for this adventurous and spirited woman and quickly asked for her hand in marriage. They wed in 1971.

In January 1974, a son came into the world: Ricardo Alejandro. Eight months later, tragedy struck the family when youngest brother Rudy lost his life to an automobile accident. She adored her little brother; when asked how often she thought of Rudy she was quick to say, "all the time." A second son, Rubén Eduardo, followed in October 1975. In the summer of 1977, the family of four moved stateside, first to Little Rock, Arkansas, then eventually settling in Houston, Texas in 1978.

In 1985, Doris suffered a health scare with a breast cancer diagnosis and underwent radiation treatment and a mastectomy. She not only overcame the odds, but dedicated her life to volunteer for Reach To Recovery, a counseling and support network for those facing the disease. They always asked for Doris; she was a natural at providing emotional support.

Doris and Richard joined Prince of Peace Catholic Community in 1988 and were active in Marriage Encounter and the Youth Ministry from the outset. Following Pan Am's bankruptcy in 1991, Doris continued her aviation streak by joining British Airways.

As her sons graduated high school and left for college, Doris took the opportunity to travel more frequently. She was fond of visiting family across the country where nieces and nephews adored their  visits from "Titi Doris." She and Richard also traveled to Europe on many occasions, a perk of working for  a major airline. After much prodding, she followed Richard in the real estate industry in 2002, joining Keller Williams and the Houston Association of Realtors shortly thereafter.

In 2003, Doris welcomed her first grandchild: Robert Edward. Two more followed: Ava Victoria in 2010 and Christian Alejandro in 2013. She spoiled them rotten; her favorite saying was "there are no rules" when they were with their grandmother "Ita."

On Wednesday September 29, 2021 Doris was on pilgrimage in Međugorje, Bosnia & Herzegovina when she unexpectedly suffered a pair of seizures and lost consciousness. Surgery was unable to return her to a conscious state and she eventually passed to the Lord six weeks later in hospice. She was a devout Catholic, unafraid of travel to the very end.

Doris is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard Miranda; brother Reynaldo Rodriguez and sister-in-law Gianna Rodriguez of Coral Springs, FL; son Ricardo Miranda and daughter-in-law, Lisa Miranda, of Allen, TX; son Ruben Miranda of Austin, TX; and grandchildren Robert Miranda of Austin, TX, Ava Miranda of Allen, TX, and Christian Miranda of Allen, TX. She is preceded in death by her mother, Margarita Caraballo of Ponce; father, Reynaldo Rodriguez of Ponce, Puerto Rico; and brother Rudy Rodriguez of Ponce, Puerto Rico.
