Doris grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Phil Meyer, in 1955. Doris worked in the oil industry early in her career. She attended the University of Houston, earning her bachelor's degree. She later went on to Sam Houston State University, where she earned two master's degrees, and her doctorate.
Doris was an educator for more than 30 years, and instilled in her family the importance and value of a great education. She taught students at the Aldine Independent School District, adults enrolled in college courses at Lone Star College and Sam Houston State University, and English as a second language at the church. She spent many years working as a grant writer for educational institutions, and was even a published author. She ended her career as an administrator for Aldine ISD.
Doris and Phil have been members at Memorial Baptist Church for 50 years. She loved and served the Lord faithfully, and was very involved in spreading His love throughout the church and the community.
Doris also loved to travel, and traveled to many exciting destinations in her life with her friends and family. Her most memorable trip was a spiritual journey to Israel, where she was able to experience the holy land and walk where Jesus walked.
Her greatest joy in life was fellowship with her family and friends. She enjoyed family gatherings, bible studies, and monthly meetings with her neighborhood book club. She loved everyone, and had a way of making everyone feel special. She was a beautiful woman inside and out.
