Doris Rebecca Adkins (nee Cooper), 88, of Cypress, TX passed away peacefully on August 20th, 2025, following a long battle with dementia. Doris was born on January 6th, 1937, in Grand Junction, CO to Herbert and Inez Cooper. She was the oldest of five children.

Her father's employment took her family all over the US. While living in WVA, she met her future husband, Charles Ernest (Sam) Adkins, Jr. They married in 1961 and had two children. Sam's employment included a few more moves to Illinois and Texas.

Doris was passionate about homemaking, crocheting, "grandmothering" and tending to a beautiful garden at her Copperfield home. She worked outside the home throughout the years and made strong contributions to her retail posts by establishing repeat clientele with her personalized service. Her favorite role was childcare at The Montessori Preschool of Copperfield – she loved every one of the children she tended, as if they were her own. Each home she had, she was the "second mother or grandmother" to all the neighborhood kids.

She was known for her beautiful, crocheted creations to include donations of caps, sweaters, afghans, "silly" socks, etc. to cheer patients at local hospitals.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband/soulmate Sam, her son Samuel Charles Adkins, and her four siblings.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lynne Adkins and spouse David Joseph Fiegener; grandchildren Samantha Adkins Heldmann and Evan Joseph Fiegener; her former son-in-law Steven Paul Heldmann; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was always grateful for the love and concern of Gloria Askins, Fran Lawrence, and her "Tatum Kids" – Patty, Mike, Ginger, and Chris.

Family came first for Doris and her definition of family was inclusive of friends and neighbors. We would like to thank Doris' extended family of caregivers at Parsons House Cypress, where Mother happily resided for the past six years, and Bayou City Hospice.

Doris was extremely proud of the achievements her brother, Dr. Herbert Cooper, contributed to the advancements in treatment and care of pediatric patients throughout his career.
