Dorice Ruth Newsome Goodwin was born March 27, 1929 in Corsicana, Texas to Joseph William Newsome, Sr. and Minnie Lou Hill.  She was their youngest child.  When Dorice, or known by family and friends as Dodie, was 5 years old the family moved to Houston, where her father worked for Humble Oil and Refining.  Dodie had two brothers, Joe Jr. and Liston and sister Madeline.  Dodie was a 1946 graduate of Sam Houston High School, one of only two high schools in Houston at the time. She performed in the drill team and met her future husband, Billy Joe Goodwin, a star athlete.

She and Bill married in 1948 and in 1949, their first child, Scott, was born.  They were then blessed with three daughters, Marsha in 1955, Ruth Ann in 1963, and Tracy in 1965.  Bill and Dodie moved to Humble, Texas in 1963, where they raised their young family.

Dodie loved new houses, remodeling and redecorating so much that she owned her own interior design studio.  She bought, sold, and built houses so many times throughout the years, that the kids learned to pencil her into their address books.  She loved her children and participated in their many various activities, watching Scott play baseball, Marsha perform on the drill team, and Ruth Ann and Tracy in dance recitals.  She was extremely gifted making draperies, cornices, dust ruffles, costumes and basically anything her girls wanted.  She was an active member of the PTA and was very dedicated to the churches she attended.

When Bill retired, they traveled throughout the United States and went on her dream trip to Israel.

She was blessed with not only the four children, but a daughter-in-law, CJ who helped her tremendously in her older years and a son-in-law, Dwayne, who kept her laughing with his story telling and antics.  She has three grandchildren that she adores, Jennifer and her husband Anthony, Ryan and his wife Dallas, and Jack.  She was blessed to live 90 years and welcome three great grandchildren, Abby, Avery, and Teagan.
