Donna (Bell) Bekker passed away unexpectedly on November 9, 2022. Donna was very proud to be a BOI (Born on the Island) from Galveston, TX. She graduated from Ball High School in 1964. She worked for Fluor Engineering in Houston, TX before moving to Bechtel Corporation. At Bechtel Donna met the love of her life, Gustave Bekker. They married in 1980 and traveled the world. Gus's work took them to Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Tennessee then back to Houston. Before settling down back in the United States Gus and Donna made a trip around the world on Pam American Airlines. They made many friends around the world who always looked forward to Donna's annual Christmas letter. Donna loved her gardening and basket weaving.
Donna is survived by her devoted husband, Gus Bekker, her sister, Gayle Cobb, nieces Cynthia Cobb and Cheryl Lyng, grandnephew, Robert Lyng, Jr. and grandniece, Emily Lyng. Her wonderful extended family in Europe includes Gus' sister Wies Kooimans, her 5 married children, 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Tilly and Donald Bell and her spoiled Scotties Maggie and Megan.
A "Celebration of Her Life" memorial will be held at her home at 14802 Bluffridge Circle, Houston,TX., Sunday, November 20, starting at around 12 noon. Gus encourages everyone to share memories of their time together with Donna.
