Obituary

Donald W. Thompson passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021, at the age of 75.

He loved family more than anything and absolutely cherished his wife Suzanne for over 52 years. He is survived by his wife Suzanne Thompson, daughter Kimberly Maxian and her husband Kevin, Son Brent Thompson and his wife Brook. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, Mikayla, Nolan, Westyn, and Charleigh Kate. He also had several cousins, Johnny Mac Casey, Mike Sutton, Woody Sutton, Rene McClarty and Terry Bosarge that he loved spending time with, anytime he could.

Donnie was a true outdoorsman. As a child he loved to swim in the Glenbrook bayou, searching for golf balls, skipping church to go skiing with his buddies, taking private flying lessons, and earned his Eagle Scout badge before he graduated high school. As an adult, he loved hunting and fishing with his son and close friends. When he was not in the field or on the water he had a love for wood working. Post retirement, he loved playing golf with his friends, and spending time on Lake Travis with family. Donnie and Suzanne found a passion for cruising with the best friends ever! Our family had the opportunity to celebrate Donnie and Suzanne's 50th Anniversary with their children and grandchildren on a Caribbean cruise to the Bahama's, a trip Donnie always loved to talk about.

Donnie spent 26 years serving and protecting the great city of Houston as a Police Officer. Sergeant Thompson joined the Houston Police Department on May 6, 1968, Academy Class #38. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Traffic/Accident division, Helicopter Division, Cadet Training, Northwest Burglary & Theft, Internal Affairs and Under Cover Narcotics. His love for flying lead him to his favorite assignment, Air Support as a helicopter pilot. He also enjoyed his tenure at the Police Academy as an instructor for High Performance Driving. Donnie retired on March 11, 1994.

Arrangements will be provided by Klein Funeral Home – Cy-Fair at 9719 Wortham Blvd. Houston, Tx.77065. Visitation will be Sunday, December 26th from 5:00- 8:00 and services will be held on Monday, December 27th at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation to https://www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/tribute-program in Donnie's honor, we would love to help advance research on this disease.
