Donald "Don" LeRoy Patterson was born on 02/21/1933 on his family's farm near Alexis, Illinois to Robert "Floyd" Patterson and Elizabeth "Betty" Azdell Patterson. He was the second son of three sons. He went to be with our Lord on 2/10/22 after over a month-long battle with pneumonia. He was preceded in death by, the love of his life, his beautiful wife Marjorie Gillette Patterson; his parents Betty and Floyd Patterson; his brothers Ben Patterson and Robert Patterson and his beloved granddaughter Samantha Patterson.
Don is survived by his 4 children Linda Patterson/Meacham, Steven Patterson, Jeff Patterson of the Houston area and his youngest son Mark Patterson of Morristown, Tennessee. They were blessed with 8 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.
Don graduated from Alexis Illinois High School and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Science from Monmouth, Illinois College, an additional Bachelor's Degree in Education from Western Illinois University and his MS Degree in Earth Science from the University of South Dakota.
Don married Marjorie Gillette on 10/23/1953 at the Navy Base Chapel in Pensacola Florida where Don was stationed during the Korean War. They were married for over 65 years until Marj passed on 8/23/2020 from Covid.
After the war and earning his college degrees Don spent his life working as a Geologist in Illinois and Texas. He loved the Oil and Gas Industry, his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren! He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and growing his own fruits and vegetables. His most favorite thing was cooking with his wife and then eating all their famous homemade goodies!!
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday 2/15/2022 at Klein Funeral Home at 16131 Champion Forest Drive – Spring, TX 77379 – 281-320-2674.
Visitation starts at 9:00 and the service starts at 10:00.
Don and Marj both loved their Church family in Monmouth Illinois. The church is historical but is in need of repairs. Please send donations to the church in lieu of flowers:
