Born July 6, 1941 in Hornell, New York, Rick lived the majority of his life in New York, Canada, Texas, and New Mexico.

Rick was a 101st Airborne Army Vietnam Veteran of the rank 1Lt, where he was an Ordnance Ammunition Officer. After his Military Service, Rick worked as a Metallurgical Engineer, Metal Failure Inspector, College Instructor, and Consultant until retiring with his wife, Joyce, to enjoy the peaceful mountains and snow of New Mexico.

Rick was a loving husband, father, brother, mentor, and friend. He was an active member in the LDS Church, an advocate for Veterans with PTSD in Texas and New Mexico, and helped lead Veteran Retreats in Angel Fire, New Mexico.

Survivors include his sister, Anne Joyce and husband, John, of Lakeland, Florida, his two daughters, Elizabeth Sargent and husband, Eric, and Debbie Wilson and husband, Colin, all of Spring, Texas, along with seven adored grandchildren, Dylan Poynter, Amber Poynter, Keira Poynter, Megyn Hoschar, Ashlee Wilson, Kayden Sargent, and Aiden Sargent also of Spring, Texas; along with many other loved family members and cherished friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Elizabeth Robertson, his father, Donald Applebee Dickens, and his mother, Marianne Winnifrede Johnson.

His Houston, Texas Memorial Service will be held on May 15, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building located at 4181 Trench Ln, Spring, TX 77386 .

His New Mexico Memorial Service and Final Rest will take place on June 14, 2021 starting at 10:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Sainta building located at 410 Rodeo Rd Santa Fe, New Mexico 87505 . A funeral procession will leave the Church and proceed to the Santa Fe, New Mexico National Cemetery for Military Honors and Burial at 1:30pm.
