Don Moshier, age 81, of The Woodlands, TX, passed away June 16, 2020. He was born March 5, 1939 in Lula, Oklahoma to Louie William Moshier and Medruth Frye Moshier. Don was raised on a farm, the second of four sons. He attended Alohso and Stonewall schools, where he proved himself an outstanding student, gifted in math and science. He was co-Valedictorian of his Senior High class and played on Stonewall High School's state basketball championship team. He went on to earn a Chemical Engineering degree from Oklahoma University which led to a 30-year career and retirement from Union Carbide.
In April 1960, Don married Leona Bennet, the love of his life. Don's work in the chemical industry enabled them to live in many places, including Texas, West Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, Connecticut and Brazil. They raised four children, Andrea, John, Amye and Carey in a loving and Christ centered home.
In 1997, Don and Leona moved to The Woodlands, TX after his retirement from Union Carbide. In the years that followed, he continued to enjoy numerous home and yard projects, trips to see family, marriages and graduations, the birth of grandchildren and ongoing involvement in the church. In 2000, Leona was diagnosed with cancer and Don remained lovingly devoted to her care and recovery until her passing in 2013. In the years after her death, Don continued to embrace life with optimism and faith in the Lord, including times of great struggle after his diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia. His continued faith and reliance on God did not falter.
Don will be most remembered by his family as a devoted and loving husband and father as well as a devout Christian and member of the Church of Christ. His quiet strength of character was an inspiration to all that knew him. He was kind, loving, intelligent, hard-working, fair, generous, and placed others before himself. Throughout life, he showed unwavering faith through challenges, including the loss of Andrea at age 14 in a fatal accident. Despite these hardships, Don's love and faith in the Lord remained constant. He and Leona enjoyed hospitality and welcomed many church members into their home over the years. He taught Bible classes and was instrumental in starting multiple church programs and planting new churches. In later years, he enjoyed working in the church food pantry and hosting small fellowship groups in his home. Don was deeply loved and admired by his family and we were blessed to have him as a father. In his passing, we find comfort knowing he is renewed in body and spirit, reunited with those most precious to him.
Don is survived by his son John Moshier of Austin, TX; his daughters Amye Gibbs of Conroe, TX and Carey Reed of Spring, TX; grandchildren Sarah Moshier, Emily Moshier, Zachary Moshier, Andrew Gibbs, William Gibbs; Emma Reed and Bennett Reed; and two brothers Glen Moshier of Brentwood, TN, and Terry Moshier of Saratoga, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents Louie Moshier and Medruth Moshier, his brother Louie Ray Moshier, his wife Leona Bennett Moshier, and his daughter Andrea Suzanne Moshier.
