Don Laverne Aldridge, 94, passed to his next life December 8th, 2023. He was born September 21st, 1929, to John and Irene (Smith) Aldridge in Mt. Morris, Michigan. Raised in Boon and Flint, Michigan to a musically talented family, Don began playing the banjo at 5 years old without any music lessons, eventually playing drums in a band while attending Mesick High School. He moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1964 and remained there until moving to Houston, Texas in 2021. Music was Don's lifelong passion, and he could play all types of stringed instruments as well as write his own songs, although he was humble for such a talented musician. He eventually fell in love with Blue Grass which he thoroughly enjoyed playing as well as writing several Blue Grass songs.

Don served as a US Marine at Camp Pendleton then in Korea from 1952-1954 and he would mention with sadness that many of his buddies were lost while serving in Korea.

Don had careers in many different industries, he was a handyman and certified HVAC technician, eventually opening a music shop in Wichita, Kansas. He sold and repaired instruments, taught lessons and had frequent jam sessions which he thoroughly enjoyed with his friends. He also played for many events whenever he had the opportunity. He had numerous students throughout the years, and he was thrilled a few went on to successful musical careers.

Preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene (Smith) Aldridge, wife Sharon Aldridge, and sister Virginia Prevost.

He is survived by daughter Cindy Aldridge, daughter Lauren Flory, son-in-law David Flory, granddaughter Krystal Flory, grandson Kameron Flory, sister Frances Novak and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, at 11am at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX. 77038.
