Dennis Milton Melcher, 79, of Cypress, Texas, passed away on August 20, 2026, in Houston, Texas. He was born on December 7, 1946, in Giddings, Texas, to Ludwig “Lou” and Hermine “Minnie” Melcher, the oldest of their four children.

Dennis grew up in Houston, where he attended St. Mark Lutheran School through the eighth grade and later graduated from Spring Branch High School. He went on to attend South Texas College before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. It was only recently confirmed that his exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam was the cause of the lymphoma he battled in his final years — a lasting reminder of the sacrifice he made for his country.

He went on to build a long career as an Estimating Manager in the oil and gas industry, where he met the love of his life, Janice. The two were married on May 31, 1980, and shared 46 years of marriage. Dennis asked Janice to marry him on their first date in 1970, and while she said no, he relentlessly pursued her until she said yes. All in all, they shared 56 wonderful years together.

Dennis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Janice Melcher; his three sons, Jonathan (wife Lori), Landon (wife Teddi), and Evan (wife Missy); his grandchildren, Levi, Landon, Lilah, Boston, Noah, Ashlyn, and Haddie; his sister, Joan Bone (husband Jack); and his brother, Jerry Melcher (wife Janice). He was preceded in death by his parents, Lou and Minnie Melcher; his sister, Carol Melcher; and his grandson, Henry Melcher.

Above all, Dennis loved God, his family, and his country — and he was a devoted Houston Astros fan through and through. He and Janice were active members of Salem Lutheran Church for more than 35 years, where their faith and friendships ran deep.

Dennis will be remembered for his deep faith, his devotion to his family, and the quiet strength he carried through every challenge he faced.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Salem Lutheran Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m., and a graveside service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Dennis's memory to either Blood Cancer United or Salem Lutheran Church.
