Dennis Patrick McGrath, 75, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Friday, December 22, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dennis was blessed with an additional 3 ½ years of life and quality time with family following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Dennis was born to Robert McGrath and Eileen Lorraine Wallace McGrath on February 29, 1948, in Oak Park, Illinois. He graduated with an MBA in Accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. He worked as a CPA for many years, serving as Controller for several start-up oil and gas companies, in addition to numerous public accounting and consulting roles. But his greatest achievement was serving as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He met his wife, Christine Hunt McGrath, on Valentine's Day in 1970, and they married in 1971. Shortly after, the happy couple relocated from New Jersey to Houston to join the Hunt Family, which had moved here several years prior. Dennis & Christine were residents of the Westador neighborhood for 40+ years, where they raised all three of their children. Dennis enjoyed spending weekends with family at the swimming pool, watching movies and barbecuing; later in life he took up long walks. Socializing and playing cards with the Hunts, in addition to prioritizing numerous treks to the East Coast to visit the McGraths, were also regular features of his life. Dennis is best known for his fighting spirit and resilience. To the McGrath family, he will forever be "Dennis the Menace" with epic tales of mischief and vigilante justice. Raise a glass of bourbon to Dennis and remember to bet on birthdays and anniversaries at the roulette table.
Dennis McGrath is preceded in death by his wife, Christine Hunt McGrath; his parents, Robert and Eileen McGrath; and son, Brett Hunt McGrath. He is survived by son Robert Hunt McGrath and his wife, Heather; daughter, Bridget Hunt Kudrle, and her husband, Paul; son, Bradley Hunt McGrath, and his partner, Craig Miller; and grandchildren, Kate Sophia McGrath, James Robert McGrath, John Dennis Kudrle, Carly Grace Kudrle, and Jonathan Hunt McGrath.
He is also survived by his siblings, Michael McGrath, Terry McGrath, Kathy Serfin, Mary Seidenfaden, and Christopher McGrath.
