Demian Abdelbaset Francis, known as Samir, or Sam, was born on September 3, 1940 in Assuit, Egypt to his parents, Pastor Abdelmasiah and Rosa Francis. He was their third child. He grew up as the son of a preacher and took the teachings of the Bible to heart in all he did. As a young man, he fought in the 1967 Six Day War between Egypt and Israel.  This period of time profoundly impacted him and solidified his trust in Christ, as he was found, held, cared for, and released by enemy troops, a feat that only God could have orchestrated.

In the early 1970's, he was introduced to Moneera, who was attending the same nursing school as his sister, Mary. They hit it off, and on September 30, 1973, they made it official. About three days later, they boarded a plane to the United States and built the life we are celebrating today. Together, Sam and Moneera raised Sally, Cindy, and Mark. Sam worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Whether that meant going to school to get a second degree or moving to another state, he always made sure everyone was taken care of.  He modeled love and generosity by opening his home to anyone who needed it, whether they were family, friends, or just other Egyptians passing through town. He has always been a cheerful supporter of his local church, as well as many local and international organizations that work to provide for orphans, widows, and those with special needs.

As a result of his desire and obedience in living out The Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), he has left the ultimate inheritance and legacy to his children and grandchildren- a job well done in God's eyes.

Sam is preceded in death by the love of his life, Moneera Francis; his brother, Mounir and sister, Mary, and their parents. He is survived by his daughters, Sally and Cindy (Ashraf) and son Mark (Vivian); his grandchildren, TJ, Michael, Addie, Mia, Camila, Mateo, and Emilia; his siblings, Samia (Sam), Fayez (Amal), Youna (Atef), Wesley (Neama), and Armiya (Laila); a huge host of nieces, nephews, and extended family around the world.
