DeeAnn Marie Schunneman, 71, of Houston, Texas, passed away on July 29, 2026, leaving behind a world made brighter by her kindness, her laughter, and the countless lives she touched along the way.
DeeAnn was born on August 7, 1954, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to a loving family that instilled in her the values she would carry throughout her entire life. She graduated from Stevens High School in 1972 and went on to earn her nursing degree from St. John's School of Nursing in 1975, answering a calling to care for others that would define so much of who she was. In 1974, she married the love of her life, Harry James Schunneman, and together they built a family and a home filled with warmth, love, and humor.
DeeAnn was the kind of person who made everyone around her feel welcome. She was kind and generous to her core, loving without reservation, and always willing to lend a hand wherever one was needed. Her smile could light up a room, and her devotion to the people she loved, whether family or friends, was unwavering. She was the friend you could count on, the neighbor who showed up, the woman who quietly made things better without ever asking for recognition.
Her passions were many. She had a deep love for flowers and gardening, serving as president of her Garden Club and volunteering her time tending the garden at her daughter's school. She was a dedicated community mentor, giving her time freely to help guide and encourage others. Music held a special place in her heart, and she shared that gift as a devoted member of the choir at Lifepath Church, where her voice was a source of joy for all who heard it. When life allowed, she loved to travel, whether it was returning home to South Dakota or exploring new countries and cultures abroad.
DeeAnn is survived by her devoted husband, Harry James Schunneman; her daughters, Jennifer Schunneman, Katie Caldera, and René Schunneman; her son, Tyler Schunneman; her brothers, Donald Sorenson, Clark Sorenson, and Kent Sorenson; and her many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a wide circle of friends and extended family members whose lives she touched in countless ways. DeeAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Delmer and Fay Sorenson.
DeeAnn's faith was the foundation of her life. She walked with the Lord in everything she did, and her love for Christ was reflected in the way she loved others. Her family takes great comfort in knowing she is now in the presence of her Savior, at peace and at home. She was a faithful servant, and her life was a living testimony of grace.
A celebration of DeeAnn's life will be held on Saturday, August 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Lifepath Church. To honor DeeAnn, the family encourages guests to wear floral or bright attire to reflect her joyful life. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to pancreatic cancer research at Lustgarten.org.
