David Bruce Ronkainen
March 16, 1946 – December 20, 2025

David Bruce Ronkainen, born in Syracuse, New York, passed away on December 20, 2025, at
the age of 79, in Spring, TX, where he had called home since 1987.

He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1973 from Michigan Tech University, and
carried the discipline and work ethic of that training throughout his life. He built a career in
environmental engineering within the oil and energy industry.

As a younger man, David had an adventurous spirit, spending time in Hawaii learning to surf
and serving in Alaska with the U.S. government. He later coached little league hockey and took
his family to the Episcopal church every Sunday, valuing tradition, structure, and shared time
together.

A devoted father of three, David is survived by his eldest daughter, Kate Ronkainen of Seattle;
his son, Nathan Ronkainen, and his wife, Ali, of Spring; and his youngest daughter, Anne
Ronkainen of Covelo, California. In the last decade of his life, his greatest joy was spending
time with his grandsons, Wilson and Carter, sons of Nathan and Ali, who lived just around the
corner. He was deeply proud of them and treasured every opportunity to be together.

He is also survived by his sister, Linda Fitzgerald of Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Beyond his professional life, David was creative and playful—he could be silly and delighted in
making family experiences fun and memorable. He was a history buff who enjoyed chess,
Tolkien, and pop music. He will be remembered for his devotion to family and the pride he
carried for those he loved.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on March 16 at 6:00 PM at St. Timothy's
Anglican Church, 6819 Louetta Road, Spring, Texas 77379, with a reception to follow.
