David Mark Laney, 65, of Houston passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022. David was born January 28, 1957 in Shreveport, LA to Howard Willis Laney and Ruth Adeline Baber, who preceded him in death.

David graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. During his career, which spanned more than four decades, David brought his expertise as an Electrical Engineer to numerous companies in the oil and gas industries.

David had many hobbies, including rocketry, photography, electronics, and robotics. David was a longtime member and administrator of the NASA/Houston Rocket Club, as well as an administrator for Tripoli Rocketry Association, Inc. David met his wife, Diana, while serving on the Media Team at Champion Forest Baptist Church, where he was responsible for operating cameras and other audio/visual equipment during services and special events. David also volunteered for FIRST Robotics in many capacities, as a mentor for the Klein Intermediate School and All-Klein FRC High School Robotics Teams alongside his wife, Diana, and as a photographer for FRC robotics competitions, including the FIRST Robotics World Championship. David was a lifelong Trekkie, and shared his love of all things science fiction with his son, Daniel.

David is survived by his wife, Diana Laney; son Daniel Laney and his wife, Katie; daughter Grace Laney; step-daughter Sarah Senecal and her husband, Tim; step-daughter Tiffany Simmons and her husband, Niv; granddaughter Caroline Laney; step-grandchildren Adeline, Titus, Eleanor, and Samuel, who will be making his arrival in June; sister Janet Jordan and her husband, Michael; numerous cousins and extended family; and his many friends and coworkers.
