David Stefan Kovac, of Houston, Texas, beloved husband of Linda S. Kovac, was born on May 9, 1943, the only son of Miro Stefan Kovac and Elizabeth Dobie Kovac.  David graduated from Houston Lamar High School in 1961, going on to Texas Tech University, and graduating with a degree in Finance in 1967
Following graduation, at the height of the Viet Nam conflict, David enlisted in the US Navy, serving at Coronado Naval Base, San Diego, California, and Littlecreek Amphibious Base, Norfolk, Virginia, before being assigned to a 4-year tour at the naval base at Reykjavík, Iceland.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he joined the American Bank of Commerce in El Paso, Texas, where he worked in the banking industry for 3 years.
David then followed his father into the oil patch, taking a job with Cities Service Oil Company in November 1975.  Taking the experience and knowledge gained from 15 years with Cities Service, he in 1990 established a contract audit firm which he grew successfully until his retirement in 2013.
Besides Linda, his wife of 16 years, David leaves 2 grown sons, David Stefan Kovac II, of Bryan/College Station, Texas, and Christopher John Kovac, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one grandson, Cooper Kovac, also of Tulsa; a sister, Kathryn Kovac Dewalt (spouse Robert) of Kingwood, Texas; a niece, Laurel Dewalt, of Nanjing, China; two nephews, Jonathan Robert Dewalt (spouse Candace), of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Matthew Daniel Dewalt, of San Francisco, California; and grandnephews Cooper and Patton and grandniece Emma Dewalt, all of Knoxville, Tennessee.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 23, at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd. Houston, Texas 77065.
