Daryl Mahlow was born August 18, 1948 in Raymondville, Texas.  He was the oldest son of Walter and Josephine Mahlow.  He had a brother Roger and a sister Kathy.  They grew up on a farm in Raymondville, Texas.  Daryl was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Josephine, and his brother Roger.

Daryl went to school at Texas A&I in Kingsville, Texas (now Texas A&M Kingsville) and received degrees in Mathematics and Geology.  Daryl met his wife, Eileen in Monahans, Texas.  They have 6 grown children, son John and girlfriend Madeline (lives in Houston area), son David and wife Tessa (live in San Diego, CA), son Joe and girlfriend Aubrey (lives in Cypress, Texas), son Mark and wife Lindsay (live in Houston, Texas), daughter Janice Rebekah (Beka) and husband Frank (live in Richmond, Texas) , and daughter Rachel (lives in Roanoke, Texas). Daryl and Eileen moved to Midland, Texas in 1982 and lived there until 1992 when they relocated to Burleson, Texas and he became a stay-at-home dad to the children. Daryl and Eileen lived in Farmington, New Mexico, Katy, Texas, Arlington, Texas, Mansfield, Texas and moved to their current home in Conroe, Texas in 2017.

Daryl loved to fish in the ocean, especially with his college buddy Perrin from Corpus Christi. Having a large family did not leave him much time for these activities.  He liked cards, especially the German card game Skat which was a popular card game at family reunions. Daryl loved being outdoors.  He was a hard worker all his life.  In retirement, he put in many hours landscaping and other outdoor activities.  One of Daryl's favorite quotes, from Roosevelt's Citizenship in a Republic speech is "the Man in the Arena":

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, and comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

Daughter Rachel gave Daryl a framed picture of this quote and he hung it proudly in his home.

Daryl is greatly missed by all who knew him.
