Darwin Gilmore, Sr. passed away peacefully with his wife of 66 years at his side, Emma Lou Cline Gilmore, at Houston Hospice on Saturday, August 8, 2020.  Darwin was born on July 27, 1928 in Goose Creek, Texas, spent his childhood in Elkhart, Texas, his adult years in League City, Texas, and the last few years in Houston at Holly Hall Christian Retirement Community.  He is survived by his wife; 3 children and their spouses: Clarissa and Gregg Stephens, Emily and Tom Alderman, and Darwin, Jr. and Ann Gilmore; 11 grand-children (plus spouses); 28 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

Darwin volunteered and held leadership roles in all things he was involved with throughout his 92 years on this planet. His priorities were family, friends, education and community which were reflected in the way he spent his time and relentless energy.  He and his wife are long time members of League City United Methodist Church and the Clear Creek Retired Teachers Association. Darwin served on countless committees and boards at the local, state and national level related to Church, Education, Genealogy and Community Improvement from the time he was a teenager, while attending college/university, as a young teacher, throughout his long career at Clear Creek Independent School District and after he retired in 1988. He remained active throughout his life, never saying "no, I can't" when he was asked or saw a need. He was an inspiration to many and an example for all.  One of his most humbling and proudest moments was when Darwin L. Gilmore Elementary in League City was built and dedicated in 2005. Darwin was devoted to Emma Lou and was at peace at the time of his passing knowing that she is being well cared for. "Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while." ― William Goldman.

Darwin will be interred at Houston National Cemetery on Thursday, August 13th at 9:45 AM Central Time.  Due to limitations caused by Covid19, attendance is limited to immediate family.
