Darrell G. Richey

Darrell Richey, 64, was unexpectedly called home to eternal rest on September 10, 2022. He was the eldest of four children born to William and Lillie Richey. He cherished his parents, brother, sisters, and the loving foundation upon which his life was built.

A native Houstonian and graduate of Sam Houston High School. Darrell started his lifelong career with Stewart & Stevenson in 1976, where he would also meet his wife, Tina. They married in October 1977 and were blessed with 3 children and 4 grandchildren.

Throughout his 46-year career with S&S / Kirby Corp, Darrell exemplified a dedication and hardworking nature that exuded in all aspects of his life. A selfless giver, embraced by all he encountered. He was sought out for his knowledge and high-level customer service. He served with constant patience and kindness. He truly enjoyed his work and highly valued his work family, coworkers, and friends.

He served St. John Neuman parish for many years as CCE Volunteer, Parish Office Support, Annual Bazaar Committees, Knights of Columbus and ultimately Eucharistic Minister.

He was a diehard Houston Sports Fan. He loved his Oilers, Texans, Rockets, Cougars but especially the Houston Astros. He was a natural born baseball player. He played in Little League through high school as a valued pitcher and all-around baseball talent. In adult leagues he was nicknamed "Hoover" for his exemplary shortstop skills to scoop up hard hit balls.

He always gave freely never expecting anything in return. He was a kind and humble man. Darrell loved all deeply but none more than his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Tina Richey; daughter Amanda Richey and Mike Botello; son, Alex Richey, and daughter-in-law Virginia Richey; grandson James Richey and Melinda Mendoza; granddaughters, Madison, Aubrey, and Noelle Richey. Mother, Lillie Richey; brother, Brian Richey; sisters Angie Mueller and Cindy Rec; In-laws, David Mueller, Steve Rec, Mike, Gloria, Tony, Virgie, Alice, & Roy Torres, Irma Lopez, Beatrice & Ray Flores; his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends whom all revered Darrell as a welcoming and caring soul.

Darrell is preceded in death by his eldest son, Timothy Richey; father, William P. Richey; mother-in-law, Nellie D. Torres.

Our loss is the Lord's gain. Darrell leaves a gaping hole of goodness in this world as he begins eternal life. He touched many lives, and his legacy of love continues through all he held dear.
