Obituary

Danny Ray Shelby, 78, passed away on November 17, 2024. He was born July 14, 1946, in Houston, Texas. He was the last of eight born to William Cloy Shelby and Mamie Lou Taylor both of who preceded him in death as did his seven older siblings; Wm Cloy Jr., Lamar, Wanda, Billy, Bobby, Nell, and Jerry.

He is survived by his wife Mary Shelby, his son Robert Shelby (Artell), daughters Lisa Babb and Shelly Meyer (Duane), and Mary's sons PJ and Michael Nichols. Danny is also survived by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and Mary's three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was excited about a new granddaughter due to arrive soon. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces, and a host of extended family and friends.

He loved spending time with his family and friends, sharing stories of his adventures and life experiences. He especially looked forward to his daily phone conversations with his best buddy, Rodney Odneal.

He dedicated over forty years to the oil and gas industry in and around Houston and in the Gulf of Mexico as an X-ray technician. In retirement, for many years he enjoyed marshaling at golf courses in Houston, Kingwood, and Conroe.

Danny was an avid horseman who loved trail riding and his trusted Missouri Foxtrotter, Rawhide, who under his care, lived for over 27 years. He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, boating, and water skiing. He participated in many sports; baseball, softball, bowling, and golf. He also coached women's softball. As a passionate gardener, he generously gifted his greatly anticipated tomatoes to a host of anxiously waiting recipients who affectionately referred to him as The Tomato-Man.
