Daniel Robert Payne was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on July 18, 1946, and passed away in Tomball, Texas on August 8, 2026.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Reba Payne; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Virginia Smallwood; siblings, Cedric Payne and Lynna Blackwell; brothers-in-law, Randall Blackwell, Doug Bullard, and Jerry Smallwood; and sister-in-law, Marcia Tunnell.

Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Kay Payne; his children, Scott Payne, and Shaun Manley and husband Dave; sister-in-law, Conne Bullard; nephews, Eric Freeman, Brian Freeman, and Clay Blackwell; nieces, Randi Lynn Bengtson and Cheryl Carnes; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He had many hobbies, but one of his favorite was playing the guitar. At age 7, he was taught how to play guitar by his dad and continued playing throughout his life. His favorite music to play was the blues and gospel tunes.

A funeral service for Daniel will be held at 2pm on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 W. Main, Tomball, TX 77375.  He will be laid to rest in Memorial Park in Tulsa, OK at 10am on Monday, August 17, 2026.
