Daniel Gilbert (Gil) Gallegos, 88, passed away on April 12, 2025 in Houston, Texas with his beloved wife Lydia by his side.

Gil was born February 18, 1937 in Roswell, New Mexico to Winnie Mae and Vicente Gallegos.  He grew up in Roswell with his parents, his younger brother Frank and extended family.  He was close to his Grandmothers Susie and Miquela.  Gil attended school in Roswell until he joined the US Marines.   After a stint in the Marines, Gil lived in Houston with his Aunt Peggy.  While working in Houston, he met the love of his life, Lydia Dominguez, whom he married on September 29, 1957, in spectacular fashion! Together they made their life in Houston where they raised their two sons, Vincent and Steven.

Gil started his work career at the GAF/Tarkett Tile plant in Houston.  He started in an entry level position and rose to the position of Plant Superintendent.  In 1976, the plant closed in Houston and Gil was transferred to the Vails Gate plant in upstate New York.  He and his family moved there until his retirement in 1985.  After retirement, he and Lydia moved back to New Mexico to be closer to his family.  They lived in their home in Peralta, NM until 2016 when they moved to the Houston area to be closer to their sons and family.

Gil enjoyed many activities.  He played golf with his buddies and enjoyed gathering with his friends and family.  He and Lydia loved dancing! He enjoyed hosting cookouts.   His Brisket, BBQ, and potato salad were the best and his red chili and posole were family favorites.  He loved to cook and everything he cooked was a ritual.  Gil enjoyed puttering in his garage.  He would spend hours working on wood projects, shelves, stools, whatever.  Sometimes he would just sit there and read a good book.

Gil survives his loving wife of 67 years, Lydia, his sons, Vince (Sandra) and Steve (Kellie).  His Grandchildren), Abby Mousner (Austin), Kacie Pavlicek (Cody),   Britni Brown (Andrew), BreAna Gallegos, Estevan Gallegos (Savvanah) and Step-Grandchildren,  Colton Smith (Megan), and Ethan Smith.  He also leaves his Great grandsons Caden Brown, Legend Gallegos, Ryatt Gallegos and great granddaughter Arbor Mousner who was born on April 8th.  In addition, he is survived by his brother Frank Gallegos (Corina), sister-in-law Delia Calderon, and brother-in-law Ricky Salazar (Terry).  Gil also cherished his many nieces and nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Services will be held at St. Anns Catholic Church, Tomball Tx. May 20, 2025, at 10:30am.
