Daniel Victor Bodin passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026 in Conroe, Texas, at the age of 71. He was born in California in 1954 to Dewey and Katherine (Kitty Kroll) Bodin. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Michelle, and son Dominic.
Dan married Kathy Metz on July 29, 1983. This union of 42 years was blessed with 5 children: Christa McBain, Adriene Rabito (Patrick), Daniel, II (Jessica), Lisa Caka (Trevor), and Brandon, as well as four grandchildren: Leo Bodin, Harper McBain, Roxie Bodin, and Elise Rabito.
Dan was devoted to the fire department. He became a firefighter in 1982 and trained as a paramedic. To fill in the hours on his days off, he built decks, fences, and cargo boxes then worked as a Farmers Insurance agent. He left the fire department in 1988, but his love for medicine grew. In 1990 Dan applied to medical school. The schools in Texas told him that he was too old to start medical school at the age of 38, a wife and three children would hinder his commitment, and paramedics were too hard to retrain as doctors. Dan was accepted to the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine on Montserrat, and Kathy and the three children went with him. While on Montserrat, Dan, Christa, and little Daniel climbed to the top of the dormant volcano which erupted in 1995. We also gained another member to our family, Brandon, who was born on the island of Guadeloupe. With limited clinical rotation sites at this university, Dan transferred to Spartan Health Sciences University on the island of St. Lucia. After completing his class work, Dan moved the family to El Paso, Texas to finish his clinical rotations in Juárez, Mexico.
After graduation, the family returned to the Houston area, and we were blessed with two more children, Paul and Lisa. Dan went to work developing pain programs for other doctors. He was devoted to helping the patients decrease their pain medications and return to a better life. By 2016 Dan opened his own program catering to firefighters, keeping them healthy and fit for duty.
