Obituary

Danal "Dan" Cook

Dan Cook passed away on April 29, 2022 at the age of 79.

Dan was born on November 24, 1942 in Jacksonville, TX to Danal and Elva (Knight) Cook. He was raised in Rusk, TX where he attended Rusk High School. Dan had a great passion for basketball and played all four years on the high school team. After graduating in 1961, he then took classes at Tyler Junior College before becoming a guard at a prison farm in Brazos County. He later moved to Nacogdoches and obtained a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1968. Upon graduating in June, Dan began his career at Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Company.  Dan was a construction accountant and worked at various locations over his career including Texas, Louisiana and Pennsylvania.  He retired in June 2003 after 35 years of service.

Once Dan retired, his interests included photography, range shooting, fishing, grilling and spending time with family and friends. His favorite musician was Willie Nelson and he attended every concert possible over the years. Dan was a caring, responsible, loyal and devoted husband, father and grandfather always putting his family first. While raising a family, he also took care of his parents and uncles over the years driving hours on the weekends to visit them and make sure they were well provided for in every way possible. Throughout his career, Dan was always dedicated to his job, arriving early every day and working overtime whenever it was needed.  When things got hectic with work and family, he never once complained about the hardships of life. Dan was well admired by co-workers and friends and was the perfect example of a proud and loving family man. He exemplified strong, outstanding principles and values throughout his entire lifetime.

Dan is survived by his wife Sheryl, daughters Andrea and Heather, son-in-law Craig, grandchildren Gavin and Claire, brothers-in-law Dolan, Larry and John, nephews Dodie and Jordan and niece Kim, and numerous great nephews and nieces.
