Obituary

James Coleman "Cole" Howell, of Cypress, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 18, 2023, in the arms of his loving parents. He was 20 years old.

Cole was born in Houston, Texas, on November 26, 2002. He was a miracle to his parents and a blessing to everyone in his life. A lifelong resident of the Fairfield community in Cy-Fair ISD, he attended Ault Elementary School and Salyards Middle School. Cole graduated with honors from Bridgeland High School in 2021. He was a rising junior at Louisiana State University, where he was studying accounting.

An energetic child, Cole grew up playing sports coached by his father and family friends. The "6 Howells" were very visible, active leaders in their neighborhood, school, and church communities, and Cole took great pride in this. He received his First Communion, Reconciliation, and Confirmation sacraments at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, where he was a lifelong member. Cole had a deep faith and always looked forward to attending religious education classes and church camp as a child.

Cole loved sports and was an avid LSU fan his entire life, never missing a sporting event during his time at LSU. He also loved the Houston Astros, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New Orleans Pelicans. He cherished time with his adoring family, and maintained many lifelong friendships. Cole enjoyed time at the beach, the lake, watching movies with his siblings, and weekly poker nights with buddies.

A quintessential middle child, he was the peacemaker in his family and everyone's favorite sibling. He was idolized by his younger cousins and doted upon by his older ones. Losing Cole presents unimaginable grief for all who knew him, but none will forget his sly humor, sensitivity, compassion, and calm, cool presence. It was impossible for Cole to have any enemies, and he was a cherished friend to those in his circle. To know him was to love him, and he was a gift who will be terribly missed.

Cole is survived by his parents, David and Gini Howell, and siblings, Ben, Lily, and Kate, all of Cypress, Texas; grandmothers, Sondra Coleman and Betty Howell, both of Shreveport, Louisiana; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family, all who loved him as their own. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Howell, Sr., and Vernon Coleman, both of Shreveport; and great-grandparents Bert and Lucille Fulmer of Homer, Louisiana, Hugh and Helena Adams of Zachary, Louisiana, and Herman and Marie Coleman of Bossier City, Louisiana.

Friends are invited to visit with his family between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. A Vigil and Rosary will take place immediately following visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 1, at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 11507 Huffmeister Road, Houston, TX 77065, with Rev. Sean Horrigan as celebrant. Pallbearers will be Steve Scales, Greg Howell, Wes Howell, Johnathan Howell, Adam Howell, Dr. Monty Aghazadeh, Mason Coenen, and Mills Coenen. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Cole's life.
