Ted Shetzer passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the age of 96.  He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann, and his son, Matthew Paul.

Ted was an avid golfer.  He was the 1981 Pennsylvania Senior Amateur Champion when he lived in Pittsburgh, and was the 1992 Senior Club Champion at Champions Golf Club, where he was a member since moving to Houston in 1982.

Ted's life centered on Champion's Golf Club.  For many years he played a round of golf in the morning, ate lunch in the dining room, then played gin rummy with his friends in the locker room in the afternoon.  He took on the task of managing the bluebird houses on the golf course, and over the course of many years, boosted the bluebird population from a few nests to hundreds of birds each year.

He was an Ohio native.  He joined the navy the week after he graduated high school in Bowling Green, coincidentally on June 6, 1944—D Day. Ted served on the Destroyer Escort USS Otter in the North Atlantic during WWII.  Only one German U-Boat was captured during the war, the U-505. Ted was a tour guide on the U-505 when it was taken on a war bond tour after the war in the Atlantic had ended but the war in the Pacific was still ongoing. The U-505 is now in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

Ted's career in the oil and gas industry began when he worked for the Iranian Oil Exploration and Producing Company in Abadan and later Masjid-i-Suleiman, Iran.  Upon returning to the U.S. in 1969, he worked for Gulf Oil in Reston, Virginia, and in Kuwait.  He stayed with Chevron after the Chevron-Gulf merger, where he eventually became Manager of the Real Estate Inventory Project.  He retired when that project was completed in 1991.
