Christopher Michael Wheat was born on January 8th, 1992, in Houston, Texas to parents Mary Beth King and Michael David Wheat. Sadly, he left this world on Thursday, June 20th, 2024, as the result of an untimely jobsite accident. He was thirty-two years old.

As a youth, he speedily earned his endearing nickname "Toast" upon the ice, where the great Wheat played hockey from the age of six through his high school years, developing a lasting love for the sport. On and off the ice, Chris created numerous friendships traveling across the country and into the world. He grew into a man with an extraordinary memory, and a beautiful heart capturing many with the sweetest of smiles. A lifelong proud Texan, Chris graduated from Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District's Windfern High School in 2010, then traveled north to Colorado for a spell in the professional kitchen of the Hiwan Country Club, before returning home to Cypress in 2017.

An incredibly devoted loving uncle to his nephews Warren and Nash, Chris loved cheering on Warren at all of his baseball games with Nash at his side! He was a self-taught shade tree mechanic with an ear for all types of music, chopped and screwed if preferred, always good for a ride when you needed, and endlessly creative with a decorative flair for birthday card signatures. In 2018, he began work in the commercial contract glazing industry in Houston as a metal shop fabricator, which included earning his certification in welding from Tulsa Welding School in January of 2021, all while continuing to work for the same commercial glass company where he remained until his untimely passing.

Chris struggled with anxiety for some time in his late youth resulting in an addiction that tried very hard to dim the light he shone. In June of 2021, he flipped the switch on his addiction and began his recovery in which he maintained his sobriety for over three years before his passing. He entered the darkest tunnel in his journey to sobriety, and he came out on the other side brightly anew, embracing life and relationships with his family. We are so proud of him and his path. A path that led him to the next greatest gift of his life, a dalmatian pit terrier named Sammy. He saved her, and she saved him.

Chris is survived by his parents, Mary Beth King, her husband Trevor King of Cypress, Texas, and Michael Wheat, his wife Carleen Clearwater of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by his kindhearted big sister, Brittany Jozwiak, her husband Matt, and their children Warren and Nash, his step sisters Isabel and Madeline King, Grandma Kathy King, Aunt Janet and Uncle Mike Gruhn, cousins Tyler Gruhn and his wife Jen, and Meredith Gruhn and her husband Maxwell Roeske; Aunt Melissa and Uncle Paul Solomons, cousin Sarah; Aunt Helen and Uncle Steve King, cousins Tanner King and his wife Melissa, Kelsey Dannhaus and her husband Chris, and Abbey Fowle and her husband John; and many more nieces and nephews from their ever-expanding families. Chris is most faithfully survived by his adored dog Sammy. He is preceded in passing by his loving Nana, Nancy Wright, his M&M bribing Grandpa, Marshall Helton, and his merry-making Grandpa Jerry King.

Services will be held July 13th, 2024, at two o'clock in the afternoon at the Klein Memorial Funeral Home – Cypress, located at 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77065.
