Christopher Goates Packard's Obituary
COVID-19 is having a devastating impact on families and communities across the country and around the world. We know that all too well now. On Thursday, October 15, 2020, Chris Packard passed away at the age of 59 from the effects of COVID-19. He left behind his wife and four children.
Upon hearing of Chris's passing, we immediately felt a deep sense of loss. Tragically we have lost a friend, a brother, a father, a husband too soon. Chris touched so many of our lives, it is hard to imagine a world without him in it.
Chris was a music fanatic. From Led Zeppelin to classical composers (on Sundays) to the Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Rush, Government Mule, and Joe Bonamossa, he loved music, and could never get enough of it.
Chris loved cars. One of his first cars he owned when he was younger was a Ford Mustang and it was always a dream of his to own a 1967 Shelby Mustang. Why this car in particular can be easily explained by simply watching the movie, 'Gone In 60 Seconds' to understand why.
He was a fan of the outdoors. Living in California, he took every opportunity to go hiking, seeing the redwoods, the beaches and old Spanish missions. In Utah, the view of the mountains, sitting outside his house in the evening, simply to enjoy the stillness and quiet of the freshly fallen snow. In Texas... He complained that it had none of the above.
In defense of his complaints, he never acted in his own self interest when it came time to make decisions for his family. He willingly gave up all of that in California to move to Utah for work and make sure to provide for his family. From Utah to Texas, he again moved to where he could best support and care for his wife and children.
His example is a legacy to his friends and family who suffer through the heat and humidity of Houston summers.

"Just last month, on our last visit, he joked that he was not sure what was better, the visit or the tri-tip we grilled for him. He decided the visit was better. But I know where his heart lies. He avoided a few close calls early in his life so that he could grow up and find Rebecca and be a loving father to his boys. But he wasn't meant to escape his most recent brush with something dangerous. He lived the life he was supposed to live, and has left us with tender memories. I'm so grateful to have such a gentle, thoughtful, funny friend in my big brother. I know I'll see him again, at which time we will debate the guitar skills of Jimmy Page verses Eric Clapton, and share a lovely chocolate creation." - Casey, Sister
I will always miss his smile, his easy, laid back ways, and his awesome sense of humor. He made me laugh and I will miss that. I know he is helping with the Gathering of Israel on the other side now with our mother and other ancestors. -Lauri, Sister
We shared similar musical tastes (he downloaded a terabyte of music for me from his collection and would often ask if I was ready for more), both of us could and did get on our soap boxes regarding gospel topics, Family History was fun. - Ann, Sister
When Dad was teaching me how to drive, he would always say, "don't simply react to the brake lights in front of you, look past that and anticipate them braking before they actually do." Looking back, he was teaching me to prepare for anticipating things before they happen and to not simply react in the moment. -Roger, Son
Chris will be forever remembered by his wife, children, sisters, father, extended family, and friends. He will be dearly missed, never forgotten.
