Christopher Sterrett Carlson
1941 – 2018
Chris 'Kit' Carlson was called home to be with the Lord on September 23, 2018. Born to George and Drusilla Carlson on February 27, 1941. Chris graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School where he was a star athlete on the Baseball and Football teams. Chris attended Texas A&M College along with his brother, George, who were both members of the Texas A&M Corp of Cadets. Chris graduated with a degree in History/Political Science. He joined the US Army and was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division and served as a Lieutenant in the 1st Air Cavalry Division during the Vietnam war. He was honorably discharged in 1980 as a Major after serving in the Texas Army National Guard and US Army Reserves. Chris married the love of his life, Carolyn Marie Clark, with whom he was faithfully married for nearly 50 years. Chris and Carolyn had two children, Shannon Marie Carlson and Christopher Keith Carlson. To provide for his family, Chris made his career in the oilfield, working for Baylor, Hydril, Baker Oil Tools and NOV, finally retiring at the age of 73. Chris was a dedicated and generous provider, loving husband, father and grandfather who loved nothing more than indulging his family. Chris is survived by his wife Carolyn, his daughter Shannon, his son and daughter-in-law Keith and Tasha, three grandchildren Lacey, Chase and Logan, his brother George, niece Debra, and nephews Wade and Lance, as well as his extended family and friends. A viewing will be held at Klein Funeral Home (16131 Champion Forest Drive) on Thursday, September 27 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Friday, September 28 at 2:00pm. Interment will be at Oakhill Cemetery (301 E Gillis, Cameron, TX) on Saturday September 29 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations in Chris's name to the American Cancer Society, MD Anderson, or a cancer research organization of your choice.
