Obituary

Christine Hunt McGrath, 70, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, in Cincinnati, Ohio. At the time of her death, she was doing what she loved most: visiting her grandchildren.

Christine was born to Wilbur Vincent Hunt and Maybelle Eunice Nelson Hunt on January 15, 1949, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She graduated from Benedictine Academy and obtained an executive secretarial degree from Katharine Gibbs School. She worked as an executive secretary for many years, but her greatest achievement was serving as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and homemaker. She met her husband, Dennis McGrath, on Valentine's Day in 1970, and the happy couple married in 1971. Shortly after, she moved to Houston while pregnant with their first child. This was an exceptionally happy coincidence because her parents and younger siblings had relocated to Houston several years prior. She and Dennis were longtime homeowners in the Westador neighborhood (nearly forty years and counting), where they raised all three of their children. Curiously, she never acquired a Southern accent, but she did love El Imperial Tex-Mex, Blue Bell ice cream, and Aggie football. Christine was best known for her smile and kindness to others. To the Hunt family, she will forever be the "family historian." Relatives will do their best to remember each other's birthdays, anniversaries, and obscure family trivia in her absence. Christine would advise that they use her strategy and write everything down with perfect penmanship.

Christine is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Eunice Hunt; sister Mary Elizabeth Hunt; and son Brett Hunt McGrath. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Patrick McGrath; son Robert Hunt McGrath and his wife, Heather; daughter, Bridget Hunt Kudrle, and her husband, Paul; son Bradley Hunt McGrath and his partner, Craig Keone Miller; and grandchildren, Kate Else McGrath, James Robert McGrath, John Dennis Kudrle, Carly Grace Kudrle, and Jonathan Hunt McGrath. She is also survived by her siblings, Patricia Ann Hunt, Pamela Hunt Heuer, Thomas Christian Hunt, Eunice Hunt Skehan, and James Vincent Hunt.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Christine's honor to the YMCA of Greater Houston, where Christine enjoyed her Silver Sneakers exercise classes for several years, at the following link:
