Obituary

Christina Marie Coon was born in Fullerton, CA on January 19, 1962. She slipped the surly bonds of this world on April 1, 2017, with her family at her side.

She left her mark on this earth with her kindness, her love, and her boundless sense of humor and joy. Those who knew her will never forget her. She could light up a room, and enliven any conversation. She had a unique viewpoint on things, and a matchless way of expressing that view, often with what we came to know as Christina-isms.

Her greatest joy in life was being a mother. She dedicated herself to raising our son- it was her calling. From Preschool, to Kindergarten home room mother, to Pack Chairman for the Cub Scouts, she was there to ensure things were done properly and our son got the most from each experience.

She never backed down from a situation, or shied from a confrontation. She carried that fearlessness into her battle with cancer. From the moment we were diagnosed, she only wanted to know what was next. What did we need to do to beat this opponent? She never asked "why me". She never complained about the endless progression of testing and treatment.  We are extremely thankful to have met so many dedicated, talented, and caring professionals on our journey.  From her doctor, who was and is a godsend; to the many other doctors, nurses, and technicians we met during the almost three years of our fight. We had highs and lows during this period, but most of all we had time. Time to enjoy each other, and all the little things in this life we tend to take for granted. I encourage everyone to take the time to enjoy these things, for our time here is fleeting, and never guaranteed.

In the end, we are all left with our memories, and that warm feeling in our hearts when we think of Christina. As I write this I realize it is impossible to summarize her life in this space. I will continue to write things down as I think of them, and encourage all of you to do the same. Share them on this site or forward them on to me. I choose to celebrate Christina's life and how she lived it. I hope you will do the same.
