Cheryl "Cheri" Joy Renz went to her reward on June 7, 2021. She was surrounded by her loving family, husband Dale, son Ryan, daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Jacob as she passed peacefully.

Cheri was born September 25, 1954, in Burnet, TX to Roy and Nona Stephens. When she was 5 weeks old the family moved to Pasadena, followed by Monahans and then Brownwood/Early, TX. She graduated from Brownwood High School in 1973 and from Abilene Christian University in 1977 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught kindergarten in Lorraine and San Angelo. She then attended Howard Payne and ACU to obtain her Speech Therapy degree. She was a Speech Therapist in Odessa schools and lived in Midland where she met Dale at church. They were married in 1988. For a girl who was willing to live "anywhere in Texas," her life soon changed. The day Ryan turned 1 year old the family moved to London, England and then Aberdeen, Scotland where Stephanie was born. The family then moved to Flower Mound, TX and on to Spring, TX before spending 5 years in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, finally ending up in Tomball, TX.

Cheri's sisters and brother were 13, 11, 6 and 4 when she was born. All remember her as the sweet "baby" of the family who spent most of her time playing with the family dog and cat. As Cheri grew up, she developed relationships with each of her siblings which were constant and strong, until the day she passed. Her family still feels her beautiful spirit. Roy, her brother, tells the following (even in their grief they have already laughed about it): "We were 5 and 10 and talking about how much we loved candy. Me being who I am, I put the condition on it she had to sit perfectly still while I was gone. 30 minutes later I returned with her reward and there on the couch was my darling sister just as I left her. Not one hair had moved."

Cheri loved teaching children. Over the years, at various congregations she attended, she taught children in Bible class across a range of ages. Her love of teaching extended to homeschooling her children and helping them when they attended private/public schools. This continued with her 9 grandchildren. She would plan out lessons and fun activities to help them learn.

Cheri was a devoted Christian. During her later years she attended Kleinwood church of Christ. She loved reading/listening to the Bible. As more Bible lessons came available online during COVID she would listen through the day, having her earbud in as she went about her chores. As she would walk in our neighborhood, she would constantly strike up conversations and ask if people would like to study the Bible with her and Dale.

Cheri also loved working outdoors planting and re-arranging decorations. She just completed a transformation of her backyard.

Cheri's travels with Dale took her across the US and throughout the world. They went on multiple ocean cruises in the Caribbean and Alaska, river cruises on the Rhine, the Danube, the Main, Moscow to St.Peterburg, and China, as well as trips to Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Italy and Israel.

Cheri is survived by her son Ryan, his wife Sarah, and their children Lydia, Henry, Owen, and Grandbaby #10 due July; daughter Stephanie, her husband Jacob, and their children Elizabeth, Sarah, Joanna, Aaron, Emma, and Samuel; sisters Tricia Darrow (Jon), Gail Morrow (Jim), Claudett McDonald (Mike), and brother Roy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Nona Stephens (nee Bradford).

Arrangements are being handled by Klein Funeral Home – Champion Forest. Visitation will be on June 19 at 1:00 pm at Kleinwood church of Christ. The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm, also at Kleinwood. A graveside service for family only will follow.
