Cherry Pearl Duplissey Labove passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 93, in Spring, Texas.

Cherry was born on August 15, 1932, in Overton, Texas. She and her family later moved to Arkansas, where they lived briefly. After the passing of her father in 1937, Cherry, her mother, and her brother, Gary, relocated to Groves, Texas. There, her mother met and married Alfred Moore. Cherry's mother passed away in 1948.

Cherry met the love of her life, James Roy "Jim" Labove, while working at Gulf Oil in Port Arthur, Texas. Jim and Cherry were married on June 7, 1952, and began their life together in Port Arthur, sharing 51 years of marriage. In 1955, they made Houston their permanent home, where they raised their three daughters: Donna, Debbie, and Jill.

Cherry and Jim formed lifelong friendships in the Oak Forest Lions Club, in the Oak Forest area and later in the Champions area. In her free time, Cherry enjoyed shopping, traveling, and spending meaningful time with her friends and family.

Cherry graduated from Port Neches Groves High School in 1950 and earned an associate degree from Port Arthur Business College in 1952. She dedicated much of her life to serving her community. Cherry was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Nu Chapter, and was actively involved in the PTA at Stevens Elementary School, Black Junior High School, and Waltrip Senior High School. She and Jim were lifetime members of the Oak Forest Lions/Lioness Club. Cherry was also a member of the Republican Women – Houston Chapter, active in the Houston Art Society, and a devoted member of John Wesley Methodist Church.

After many years as a stay at home mother, Cherry began her professional career in the late 1960s, working for banks, advertising agencies, and oil companies. She ultimately retired from Rowan Oil Companies in 2005.

Cherry was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy "Jim" Labove; her parents, Rebecca (Duplissey) Moore and Willie Duplissey; her brother, Gary Duplissey; her nephew, Tim Duplissey; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her three daughters and sons in law: Donna Rieger (Karl), Debbie Durham (Carlos), and Jill Stanaland (Kent); nine grandchildren; six grandchildren in law; twelve great grandchildren.

We will forever cherish the memories of life, love, and relationships we shared with our Mom and Memaw.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the amazing nurses and staff at The Villages at Gleannloch Farms Assisted Living and Heart to Heart Hospice for the love, patience and compassionate care they provided to our mother during her final years.

Services will be held on April 13, 2026 at 11:00 am at John Wesley Methodist Church, 5830 Bermuda Dunes Drive, Houston, TX 77069.  There will be a reception at the church following the service.  A private family interment is planned for later in the day.
