Charlie Martin Leland Jr., 80, of Spring, Texas, passed away September 30th, 2023. Martin was born October 19th, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Charlie "Chick" Martin Leland Sr. and Lenore "Boots" Hartley Leland.
Martin was a 1966 graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He spent his entire career with U.S. Steel Corporation, starting in the blast furnace in Birmingham and retiring as a well-respected sales manager in Houston. Martin was a gifted and charismatic entertainer. He sang and played the piano by ear. He had a loyal fan following throughout his lifetime, which he affectionately called the Leelettes. Having such a good nature made him a favorite coach of soccer, baseball and softball while his children were growing up. It was all about the family for Martin. He was a beloved husband, father and "Pops."
Martin is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Susan Fonner Leland; daughter Lisa (Mike) Vegeais; son Kevin (Christina) Leland and grandchildren Sarah, Lucy and Henry Leland. Martin was preceded in death by his sister, Lucy Leland.
