Charles Henry Waites, Jr.

Charlie was born to Charles Henry Waites and Gladys Kelley Waites in Shreveport, Louisiana, on June 23, 1938.  He passed peacefully on April 15, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Charlie is survived by Marci, his wife of 55 years; son Patrick and his wife Catherine; son Michael and his wife Tracy; grandchildren Sarah Waites, Corporal Spencer Waites, USMC, and his wife Hanna, Madeleine Waites, Emily Waites, and Meagan Waites; brother Allen Waites and his wife Jamie; nephew Jeffrey Waites; nieces Katherine Waites Corley and Amy Waites; sister-in-law Pamela Hallin and her husband David; and nieces Melinda McManus and Nancy Jane Joyce.

Charlie grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, and attended LSU, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha order. He moved to Houston in 1962. There he worked with several engineering firms over the next decade and a half. In 1978, Marci and Charlie founded Cypress Creek Personnel Services, which they ran together for many years before turning the reins over to son Michael.

Whether hunting, fishing, or coaching his sons' sports teams, Charlie loved being outdoors and spending time with friends and family. Later in life he particularly enjoyed traveling with Marci and friends and seeing the world.

Charlie attended John Wesley United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Searchers Sunday School class.  A memorial service will be held at John Wesley on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to provide food to the hungry through the food distribution efforts at John Wesley United Methodist Church. Checks should be noted as being for "Food Distribution" and maybe mailed to John Wesley UMC, 5830 Bermuda Dunes Drive, Houston, TX 77069
