Charles (Chuck) Urban Spore, 87, passed from this life on June 2, 2024 in Houston, TX. He was the sixth child born to the late Bernard and Genevieve Spore in Ashland, OH on October 10, 1936.

Charles Spore received both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Fine Arts at Ohio University.  He came to Arlington, Texas in 1963 as an Instructor of Interior Design at Arlington State College.  In 1969 he was employed as Director of Interior Design at Sanger-Harris department store in Dallas.  He was responsible for the design of model furniture rooms, and his work was featured in House Beautiful, Woman's Day, Residential Interiors, Texas Monthly as well as many other periodicals and design publications. While working for Sanger Harris he became Division Vice President for Home Fashion and Interior Design.

In1987, Sanger Harris was acquired by Foley's Department Store, and Chuck and Mary Ellen made the move to Houston.  Foley's was ultimately acquired by Macy's department store in 2002 when he retired.

During his many years at Sanger Harris and Foley's, he travelled extensively to foreign markets, and upon retirement, he and his wife developed a passion for travel.  In retirement, Chuck served on the Architectural Committee of Woodstone III Townhome Community from 1987-2019 and was active as a docent with Rice Design Alliance Home Tours.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen Spore; his daughter, Susan Spore and husband Jose Sancho, and his four grandchildren Brent and Amanda McQuitty and Christina and Alex Sancho-Spore. And his sister, Barbara Rush, 91.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela McQuitty and his grandson Anthony Sancho-Spore.

Services include a funeral Mass at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079 (281.497.1500) on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 10:30 am.  Reception immediately following.  Arrangements are entrusted to Klein Funeral Home-Tomball.
