Charles Eugene Owens, age 78, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Friday, July 1, 2022 at his home in Houston, TX. He was born July 23, 1943 in Baytown, TX to George E. Owens and Muriel Inez (Reynolds) Owens.
He was a 1961 graduate of Conroe High School before leaving to join the United States Army. He served his country by driving and instructing others to drive tanks. After leaving the Army, he attended Spartan School of Aeronautics, where he gained the additional skills needed to pursue a lifelong career in aviation mechanics with Trans Texas Airways, Texas International, and Continental Airlines. He retired in 2006, but was never one to relax; he took jobs working for the Census, the Grand Jury, his neighborhood HOA, and consulting for United Airlines.
Charles was not a man of many words, but the words he spoke were always sincere. He placed family first above all, and would go to great lengths to help someone in need. His genuine connections are made evident by the many nicknames he picked up throughout his life: Eugene, Bluejean, Charlie Horse, Charlie Bean, and of course, Pawpaw.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, wife, and two siblings. He is survived by two sisters, Ruth (Owens) Meek with her husband Frank, and Pam Owens; three daughters, Drieva (Owens) Coles with her husband John, Paige Owens, and Misti (Owens) Tarwater with her husband Paul; a grandson, Austin Coles; four granddaughters, Kayla Prescott, Kelsey Prescott, Avery Tarwater, and Evelyn "Evie" Tarwater; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Charles touched are invited to the KLEIN FUNERAL HOME, 16131 Champion Forest Dr., Spring, TX 77379, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022, to celebrate his life, reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
