Wayne Oliver, 93, passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2023.

Wayne was born August 11, 1930, in El Paso, Texas to Joseph David Oliver and Verdie Park Oliver.  He was the fourth of five children:  Jaurena "Jeannie" Oliver Hufford, Dorothy Oliver Bossie, Joseph "Joe" D. Oliver and Hal Eugene Oliver, all of whom predeceased him.  His mother passed when he was 18 months old.

Wayne graduated second in his class from Ysleta High School in El Paso in 1948.  He married Virgina "Jenny" Lee Dakan in 1950.  Their surviving children are Paul Thomas Oliver, Mark Alan Oliver and Kellie Lee Oliver Hosea.

While working full-time as a chemist, control lab technician and process engineer for Chevron Oil Company, and with three young children, in 1958 Wayne enrolled at Texas Western College, now the University of Texas at El Paso.  He completed a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in physics with a minor in mathematics in 1964.  Despite his full schedule, one of Wayne's favorite pastimes was to load the family into their station wagon for weekend camping trips in New Mexico.

In 1967, he went to work for IBM and the family moved to Houston.  He advanced from a Systems Engineer to a Senior Marketing Representative to National Account Manager for Exxon. Wayne and Jenny spent two years in Saudi Arabia in 1985 and 1986 before his retirement from IBM in 1990.  While based in Saudi Arabia, Wayne and Jenny enjoyed traveling together, often turning international business trips into vacations.

Wayne and Jenny designed their ideal retirement home in Stagecoach, Texas, and moved there in 1991.  They were active, serving members of Tomball United Methodist Church.  In retirement, Wayne's first morning project was to work the daily Crossword, Jumble and Sudoku puzzles in the newspaper.  A perpetual tinkerer, he always had projects in process in his garage.  Wayne also loved regular family trips to Lake Travis and Telluride, where there were many adventures and episodes that made lasting memories.

Wayne "Daddy" will be missed, especially by his children, Paul, Mark, and Kellie; his daughter-in-law, Jill Bevins Oliver; Jill's parents, Dick and Ferris Bevins; his son-in-law, Rick Hosea; and Linda Sue Sharpe.  He was a wonderful and doting grandfather "Paw Paw" to Sierra Oliver Shane, Helena Ferris Oliver and Elissa Claire Oliver.  The girls will forever have loving memories of a wise and caring grandfather who "knew everything."

Jenny predeceased Wayne in 2022.  They celebrated 71 years of marriage together, and now are joyfully reunited.
