Charles Henry Goodman died peacefully at his home with his wife of over 60 years by his side on the morning of January 29, 2017. He was born in Perry, Florida to Henry Ernest Goodman and Dora V (O'Steen) Goodman on May 9, 1931. He was married to Ellen Margaret (Murphy) Goodman on June 2, 1956.

He was a graduate of Perry High School in 1949, attended Florida State University, and completed a degree at Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in Montgomery, Alabama.

He served as an instructor in the U.S. Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio during the Korean War (1950 to 1953). He served America's military veterans through his career in the Veteran's Administration. This job took him and his family from Montgomery, Alabama, to the Philippines, Virginia, Maine, and finally Texas, where he eventually retired as Adjudication Officer in 1986. He then ran his own business as an Enrolled Agent in tax and accounting until 2000.

He enjoyed watching college football, researching his family tree, and gardening—even becoming certified as a Master Gardener.

He was a great story-teller, many of them revolving around growing up on the farm. His grandchildren will always remember the stories that were part of the family Christmas Eve gathering.

He had a strong sense of duty to his commitments at work, home, and church. He instilled this in his four children, involving them at an early age in the paper routes he always seemed to make time for. Family was important to him, and he maintained a quiet pride in his children and grandchildren. His children still have the letters he would send them at the start of a new school year or at the beginning of a new challenge.

He deflected attention to others, and demonstrated respect for others even if he disagreed with them.

These qualities of character and integrity were shaped by his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He raised his family in church, and was an active member at Champion Forest Baptist Church since moving to Houston in 1977. He taught Sunday School throughout his adult life, most recently the Legacy Sunday School class at Champion Forest. He sought to not only teach the Bible but live it, letting it guide the way he approached his life and, finally, his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Edward. He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Murphy) Goodman, his four children, Tom Goodman and wife Diane, Dave Goodman and wife Kathy, Nisha Coker and husband Kevin, Meg Erskine and husband John. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Michael Goodman, Stephen Goodman, Dylan Goodman, Riley Goodman, Jack Goodman, Zachary Coker and wife Natasha, Ryan Coker, Jake Little, Adam Coker, Ethan Coker, and Owen Erskine, and one great-grandson: Clarke Coker. He is also survived by one brother, Jerry Goodman, and two sisters, Betty Ann Goodman Curvin, and Cherrie Ann Goodman Driver.

The funeral will be held at the Champions location of Klein Funeral Home at 2pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, Pastor Bill Elliott officiating. A graveside service will follow at Klein Memorial Park in Tomball. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in his name.
