Charles W. Derr, 70, of Houston, Texas passed away October 25th. He was the son of Ernest Derr Jr. and Lorena W. Derr. He was a graduate of Flour Bluff High School, attended 3345th USAF Technical School and the University of Houston. He was born in Houston, raised in Houston and Corpus Christi.

Charles was a mechanic of everything, pilot, hunter, fisherman, U.S. Airforce Veteran, and survived by; his wife of 32yrs, Kathy Derr of Houston, sister Marian Derr and partner Janet Gallager of Dallas, son Thomas Derr and partner Leigh Dougherty of Austin, son Daniel Derr of Austin, son and daughter in law, Christopher and Melinda Chenoweth of Austin, son and daughter in law, Gary and Kristy Chenoweth of Daytona Fl, son Zane Chenoweth. Grandchildren include Caylee, Mack and Lucy Chenoweth of Austin, Cayleb Chenoweth of Hamilton Ontario, Lars, Nick and Seyla Chenoweth of Daytona Fl. Charles was preceded in death by his parents Lorena and Ernest Derr jr., brothers; Ernie Derr, John Derr and sister Kathy Derr, also wife Francis Derr and son Tracy Chenoweth.

At an early age, he helped support his family living and working in a bait stand. Later joined the 111th Fighter Group as a specialist on the McDonald Douglas F-101's Honeywell integrated flight and guidance control systems in 1971.

He was a digital circuit designer at Texas Instruments and joined the energy industry full time in 1976 where he has worked to-date specializing in flow measurement and is particularly specialized in ultrasonic meters where he holds several U.S. patents.

He was a prolific writer and published papers on both gas and liquid measurement for AGA, American School of Gas Measurement, International School of Hydrocarbon Measurement,  North American Custody Transfer Measurement Conference, Ultrasonic Meter Users Workshop,  Appalachian Gas Measurement Short Course, Acadiana Flow Measurement Society, International Symposium on Fluid Flow Measurement; Flow Control Magazine and other technical journals.

He worked for Sarasota from 1981 till 1992 when he joined Daniel Industries.

While working for Daniel as Manager of Ultrasonic Development he obtained several patents, assisted Bolivia in developing their national standards for flow measurement, originator of the "SeniorSonic" naming of the Daniel USM, and inventing the Dual-X meter.

Charles left Daniel to join Elster (now Honeywell Process Solutions), as a senior consultant, sales support, for gas measurement and control, where he continued to provide support and to use application experience for flow measurement devices to solve critical measurement/control needs and to integrate them into existing and new systems.

Charles touched many lives and will be remembered by everyone who knew him. He was a kind and caring individual who enjoyed talking to everyone and had entertaining stories to tell for days.

Charles life will be celebrated at Faithbridge Church
