Charles Ray "Charlie" Briney, 81, of Houston, entered his eternal rest on March 10, 2025, surrounded by his children, Michael and Kristi, daughter-in-law, Miriam, and his longtime friend and companion, Doris Woody.

Charlie was born on April 9, 1943, to Lester and Stella Briney.  Although he was their only son together, he was the beloved younger brother to Glyn, Eddie and Darlene.  Affectionately known as "Butch" to his family and close friends, Charlie spent his childhood with a deep love for horses, having several throughout his youth.

A proud graduate of Klein High School in 1961, Charlie played football as a cornerback for the Bearkats and contributed to the yearbook committee. Following high school, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. Charles was immensely proud that his son, Michael, bravely followed in his footsteps by joining the Navy, carrying on his legacy of service and dedication to his country.

In 1967, Charlie married Billie Prine, and together they built a loving home for their two children, Michael and Kristi. They raised their family in Tomball, next door to Charlie's parents before relocating to Spring in 1996.  A special memory for Charlie was seeing Kristi attend and graduate from his alma mater, Klein High School in 1993.

Charlie dedicated his career to civil service, working for the United States Postal Service before retiring and later joining Enterprise Car Sales.

Michael and Kristi remember their father as an avid reader, with a particular devotion to studying his Bible. He delighted in watching his two grandchildren grow into young adults. He also cherished time spent with his retired postal service friends, enjoyed historical documentaries and westerns, and was known for his kindness and generosity toward others. Charlie was a true friend to many and always had a heart for those in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Eugene Briney and Stella Mae Steptoe Briney, as well as his siblings, Elmer Glyn Bittick, Edsell Ford Bittick and Ruth Darlene Bittick Seiter.

He is survived by his son, Michael Briney (Miriam) of Houston, daughter Kristi (Mark) of Tempe, AZ and his grandchildren, Ava and Nash Garcia.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest. A service to honor Charlie's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025 with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.  A committal service with military honors will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery.

Charlie's memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
