Charity Mae Jones, lovingly known as "Chicken," was born September 21, 1957 in Amarillo, Texas to her loving parents Mr. and Mrs. Harvey and Alma Barnes.  She attended North Main Church of God in Christ until her health no longer allowed her to do so, but remained a faithful tither to the very end.

Charity's family relocated to Kansas City, Missouri and then later to Anchorage, Alaska.  She was raised to know the meaning of hard work as she and her sisters together were taught how to perform tasks ranging from prepping automobiles for painting in her father's auto body shop to managing housekeeping duties.  She was also skilled at tending to the animals on the family farm.  Her learned skills prepared her for a life of independence.

Charity and her parents moved to Houston, Texas, where she attended and graduated from Sam Houston High School. Throughout school, she ran in track and field competitions, played the cornet, doodled in art, and loved to attend sporting events.  After graduating, she returned to Anchorage and worked as a women's fashion stylist in a retail clothing shop.  She also worked for Central Freight Lines, then advanced to Yellow Freight Lines for 15 years in Houston, TX.  Performing many duties including Payroll manager, Charity's health forced her into early retirement.

She proudly gave birth to her beautiful and only child, Keisha, on May 8, 1979 and as a single mom, worked diligently to provide a good life for her daughter.

In 1987, Charity was introduced to the love of her life, Karl Jones who she called her "Marlboro Man".  They were joined together in holy matrimony on October 21, 1996 and enjoyed thirty 30 years of love, partnership and especially his good cooking!  They believed strongly in their vow, "until death do us part." She experienced several health challenges throughout their marriage and when Charity's health failed her, he was by her side and supported her through sickness and health until her final heartbeat on February 14, 2017.

She was a fun-loving person, a snappy dresser who loved good music, great food, a competitive game of Spades and most of all a fan of her beloved Houston Rockets and Texans.  God broke the mold when He made her!  She never met a stranger and showed love and kindness to everyone, reminding them to "be careful" before they left her presence.  Charity's name means LOVE, and one would think she planned it herself to transition on Valentine's Day, the day people show love toward one another.  We all loved Charity, but God loved her best. We submit to God's will, as we know we will see her again!

Charity was preceded in death by her father, Harvey Barnes, step mother, Dola Barnes, and her sister, Clarice Norris.

She leaves to cherish her unforgettable memories: her devoted husband Karl Jones, daughter Keisha Gwinn (James), four (4) sisters and two (2) brothers: Charlotte White (James), Edith Barnes, Sheila Barnes, and Shenell Barnes; Jerroll Barnes, and Robert Bailey; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law brothers-in-law and dear friends.

Her final words, "I love you, too," will always be remembered by her family.
