Catherine Levada Campbell Lewis (92), devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2016.  Catherine was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas as the only daughter to Gibson and Bertha Hall Campbell on September 24, 1923. Growing up during the Great Depression was hard, but became significantly more difficult with the death of her father when Catherine was only eleven years old, as she became the family cook and housekeeper while her mother and three brothers worked to make ends meet.

Shortly after graduating from high school, Catherine met 1st Lieutenant Richard "Dick" Lewis from Minnesota while he was in flight school in Fayetteville on his way to Guam as a B-24 bomber pilot. Their courtship continued long range until Dick finished his required combat missions and returned to Arizona as a flight instructor. They married in Tucson on December 10, 1944 and soon returned to Fayetteville to allow Dick to complete his education at the University of Arkansas.

Dick gave Catherine the nickname "Kay", and the two moved to the Houston area after Dick's employment with Continental Oil Company following his graduation. Catherine worked as a telephone operator as Dick traveled throughout Texas, finally settling the family in Corpus Christi following the birth of their son Rick.

Catherine was all about family, and loved to bake and cook. Meals had been important family time during her childhood, and she relished cooking for Dick and Rick. Holidays were always special times filled with delicious smells and tastes for the occasion. Some of her family's favorite memories will always be of "Grandma" cooking chorizo breakfasts on Saturday mornings and her special treats at Christmas. She also made sure the family was ready for church on Sundays and she lent her soprano voice to Corpus Christi's South Bluff Methodist Church choir for more than a quarter century. Prior to leaving her home of over 50 years in Corpus for medical issues, Catherine had also become a longtime member of St. Luke's Methodist Church. Catherine was also a big sports fan, cheering on Rick's sports teams and her grandkids' teams at every game and tournament, no matter where the location.

Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband Richard and her brothers Asa, James, and Doyle. She is survived by her son Rick Lewis and wife Lydia of Cypress, Texas, grandson Dane Lewis of Cypress, and grandson Derek Lewis, and wife Rachael, of New York City, New York.

Visitation will be held from 6:30-8:00 PM on Thursday, August 25th and funeral service at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 26th at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd. in Houston. A graveside service will be performed at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi on Saturday, August 27th at 2:30 PM.
