Cary Edward Rasberry, age 35, fought a long, hard medical battle and took his place in the heavenly realm on August 4, 2017.
Under the hand of Dr. David Sutherland of Minnesota, Cary survived a Total Pancreatectomy Auto Islet Cell Transplant in October 2009 which was hoped to give him another 2 to 4 years of life. The Lord was gracious and Cary survived almost 8 more years. He truly used moments when he was able to serve the Lord in reaching out to others. It was not uncommon to find Cary at the hospital in a waiting room praying with a family member of another patient or ministering to the nurses and physicians who cared for him. How do you sum up the life of someone so amazingly talented who lived more in his 35 years than some people will live in their whole entire lives. He loved to travel and had many adventures of travel which he loved to share with others as a captivating story teller. He will be missed beyond words, but will live on in his two boys and in the influence he had on all those whose lives he touched.
Cary graduated from Sam Houston State University in one-and-a-half years with a Bachelor in English. He then went on to obtain a Master in Counseling from Prairie View A & M to support his work as a preacher. He was working on completing his dissertation for a PsychD in Behavioral Medicine when he fell ill. Due to his illness, Cary was unable to complete his doctoral work.
Cary taught school in Japan and Step-By-Step Christian School in Tomball. He worked as a psychologist for Texas Youth Commission in Brownwood TX. He preached the gospel in various locations such as Mississippi, Texas, and Indiana. He also had the opportunity to preach on various international trips to Columbia, Japan, and Italy.
Cary is survived by his wife of 13 years, Amanda Rasberry; two sons, Timothy Edward Rasberry and Peter Nicolas Rasberry; his parents, Eldon and Lois Rasberry: and siblings, Charles Rasberry, Randy Rasberry, Myron Rasberry, Cindy Dowell, and Caryn Ballay.
