Carolyn Ruth Rice passed away peacefully on January 23, 2020 with family by her side. She was born in Seattle, Washington. Her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she grew up, learned to play the piano, and attended 3 years of college. She met Ivan G Rice after World War II and they were married in 1950. After several moves they settled in Houston, Texas where they raised their family. Over the years Carolyn was actively involved in her churches, cub scouts, supported her sons getting their Eagle Scout rank, the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) where she was President of the local chapter. She also typed many papers and reports for her husband. She was active in the PTA and supported her daughter taking many years of dance classes making over 40 dance costumes. As a piano player, she volunteered her time playing at various functions. All three of her children with her encouragement learned to play multiple string instruments. In her later years, Carolyn and Ivan enjoyed spending time in the Texas Hill Country watching the wildlife and looking at the Texas wild flowers. Through out her married life she enjoyed world wide travel with Ivan. Her hobbies included sewing, embroidery, tatting, but her love was crocheting. She greatly loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carolyn is survived by Ivan her husband of almost 70 years, her three children Tom, Kathy (Randy), and Jim (Laura), Her grandchildren Matt (Heather), Heather (Andrew), Chris (Lizzy) and Patrick (Katy), and 5 great grandchildren.
