Carolyn Marie Carothers Doege, daughter of H.P. and Lilah Carothers, was born in Austin, TX, on February 16, 1941.  A long-time resident of Cypress, TX,  she passed away on August 13, 2023.  She was a 1959 graduate of Lamar High School in Houston, TX, and earned a Master's degree in Chemistry and Biology at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority.  Carolyn married Rayburn L. Doege in 1974, who she met while at Sam Houston.

She returned to Houston after graduation and through the years had worked at Baylor College of Medicine, Maxwell House, Baker-Hughes, Southwest Labs, and after retiring, was an adjunct professor at Lone Star College teaching Biology.

Carolyn loved the outdoors.  She went to the golf tournaments that Rayburn was playing in and snow skied many times including on their honeymoon.  They would go deer hunting together where she sat in the blind and took pictures.  Early on she had British sports cars which had an effect on her brother Richard who did the same thing as well as influenced him to attend Sam Houston State University.  She enjoyed going out to see her brother playing in bands and socializing with people.  Carolyn was always smiling, laughing and had a bubbly personality like her mother.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Rayburn Doege, and brother, Richard Carothers.

Friends are invited to visit with the family between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 19, in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow in Mueller Cemetery in Cypress.
