Carolyn Jean Allison (nee Grother) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 19, 2024, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 84.  She was born in Houston on October 30, 1939.

She is survived by his sister, Kay Grother and sister-in-law, Debbie McGrew, whose husband, Carolyn's half-brother Joe Howard McGrew, passed away.  She was proceeded in death by her adoptive parents, her birth mother, half-brothers, Joe and Pete McGrew and half-sister, Sarah McGrew.

Her adoptive parents, Albert J. (A.J.) and Kathryn Grother moved to Des Moines, Iowa when she was in grade school. She went to high school at Roosevelt High School graduating in 1957 . She then entered Kansas University where she earned a BS in education, graduating in 1961.  She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.

After meeting on a blind date in 1959, Carolyn was married Robert J. Allison, Jr. (Bob) on June 17, 1961.  They had 63 delightful years of marriage.  His love, support and partnership were the highlights of her life.  All she ever wanted to be was "Bob's wife".

They have three wonderful daughters: Amy married Jon Watkins and they have two daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth; Ann married Casey Stanislaw and have a son, Caleb (wife Teresa and children Evelyn and Joseph) and a daughter, Emily (husband, Jimmy Dokis); and Jane (whose husband, Chip Calcari, has passed away).

Being married to an oil executive, Carolyn moved many times, some of them 6,000 miles.  Her favorite place was 3 years in Trinidad.    While living in so many places, she taught as a substitute in some of the schools.  But, her greatest passion was volunteering.  Upon their last move to Houston in 1974, Carolyn began volunteering at Houston Northwest Hospital.  Her friends there convinced her to get her EMT certificate and ride with the Cypress Creek Ambulance, then all volunteer.  She rode and often drove the ambulance and was a first responder to many calls.  When she finally could not carry 300 pound patients down the stairs on a stretcher, she changed to volunteering in the Emergency Room, where her specialty was helping anxious and grieving families.  She won an award for  10,000 volunteer hours.  She was instrumental in the success of the Cypress Creek EMS.

She had many favorite memories.  Summers on the French River in Canada probably topped the list  She loved taking the grandkids into the woods to teach the Bible; cottage snooping with her sister-in-law Susan; scouting out and picking cranberries in late September in her green steel boat "Tank"; finding a cold weather picnic spot where we called to the loons and they came up to us; fishing with Bob (and she always caught the most and the biggest fish!); enjoying our wonderful old, small cottage with all of its idiosyncrasies; Seeing a black animal in back of the cottage, she thought it was Ann's dog.  "Here blackie", she called…unfortunately, it was a black bear!  Enjoying a summer-long reunion with family we would otherwise lose track of without Canada.

Other memories include having tea with Mrs. Anwar Sadat in the Presidential Palace in Cairo, then going to the Frank Sinatra concert at the foot of the Sphinx; being stranded in a small Alpine village in Austria when the brakes went out at the top of the Alps; spilling gravy on the Sheik of Umm Al Quwain at a wine chateau in Bordeaux;  being co-host of the All-American Wildcatters with Bob when he was President; touring the little back roads of Scotland and visiting the castles; fixing up and enjoying their 250 year old Shalloch house near Loch Lomond in Scotland and antiquing.  Bob had purchased a 1961 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud for her to chauffer her friends around the countryside.

Per Carolyn's request, there will not be a funeral service.  There will be a private memorial for family and close friends at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DePelchin Children's Center , Advent Presbyterian Church , or the Houston Methodist Hospital Foundation .
