Caroline Frances Hengst, age 70, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 27, 2020, surrounded by her family. From her birth on July 16, 1949 in Houston, TX, she continued to be a servant of our Lord, a faithful wife, a loving mother to her children, and a devoted Oma to her grandchildren.
She was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on July 31, 1949. She grew up in the Heights and attended Bethlehem Lutheran School and Reagan High School. She was married to her husband, Alton Hengst on January 15, 1972, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They became members of Trinity Lutheran Church in 1982. Together the were blessed with daughter, Michelle Samadani and son, Jonathan Hengst. Later came son-in law, Michael Samadani, who she was like a second mother to, as well as grand-children; Noah, Samuel, Grayson, and Abigail Samadani. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
Although her most important roles were that of a wife and mother, she held different clerical positions including a secretary for the Houston Chronicle and a supervisor at Voter Consumer Research. She was a selfless woman who put everyone else's needs in front of her own. She had a heart of gold and she loved to laugh and joke around. Her favorite pastimes were cooking and recipe collecting, as well as spending time with her family, listening to polka music, and playing with her grandkids. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Minnie Mitschke; husband, Alton Hengst; sister, Florence Scruggs; brother, Clarence Mitschke, and nephew Scott Mitschke. She is survived by her daughter and son , son-in-law and grandchildren, along with brothers: Harvey, Ken, and Leonard as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
