Carol Ava Swank Miller, 93 passed away September 28, 2019, in Tomball, Texas. She was b
orn September 4, 1926, to Noel E. Swank and Hallie V. Redman Swank.
After her father's untimely death when she was only four, the family moved to her grandparents' house in Kennett, Missouri, where she grew up. She graduated from Kennett High School 1944 and University of Missouri 1948. Instead of going to her graduation ceremony, she was married to her high school sweetheart John (Jake) Miller on June 5, 1948, in an unusual double wedding ceremony with her sister, Jo. The family were members of First Baptist Church across the street and Carol said the first time she ever rode in a car to church was on her wedding day. After the double wedding ceremony in the church sanctuary, a reception for both couples was held in their home, the wonderful old Redman house.
Carol was a homemaker, church choir and handbell choir member, and active member of Baptist churches wherever she lived in Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana. She was a faithful Women's Missionary Union member. She took up oil painting in her mid-60s, loved symphony and church music, and was an avid reader and crossword puzzle worker.
She is survived by four children: daughters, Barbara Ellen Harris and husband Walter of Magnolia, TX, and Janet Catherine Lambright of Cleburne, Texas; sons, Richard Noel Miller and wife Terri of Boone, NC, and Russell Thomas Miller and wife Sylvia of Boerne, TX; seven
grandchildren, Christy Piles, Julie Hancock, Robert Harris, Elise Sigmon, Adam Miller, Sarah Adams, and Gray Miller;
17 great-grandchildren, Caleigh, Sarah and Caroline Piles, Wyatt, Luke, Hudson, and Cash Hancock, Jacob, Jenna, Marshall, and Miles Sigmon, Cybil and Embry Miller, Branson Miller, and Jase, Rhett and Lainey Adams; her s
ister, Noel Ellen Swank Berryman (Jo) of St. Charles, MO; n
ephews, David Berryman and Mike Berryman; and a n
iece, Susan Swank.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her beloved husband, Jake, and her brother, Gene Swank.
A visitation will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 12, at McDaniel Funeral Service - Kennett, 115 Highway 412, Kennett, Missouri 63857. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett.
